This is a copy of a letter I sent to another NASCAR fan:
How can you say Dodge was given an unfair advantage? Compared to the other makes (i used Pontiacs, b/c Tony Stewart drives one), they have a lot less wins, top 5s, and top 10s.

Dodge
# of drivers: 10
drivers in the top 10 in points: 1
wins: 4 (avg. 0.4)
top 5s: 24 (2.4)
top 10s: 46 (4.6)

Pontiacs
# of drivers: 10
drivers in the top 10 in points: 2
wins: 5 (1)
top 5s: 33 (6.6)
top 10s: 60 (12)

How is that an advantage? They have less wins, top 5s, and top 10s than all the other makes. And Dodge needed the kickout (the aerodynamic change you talked about; NASCAR kicked out the Dodge nose by 2.5 inches). They had no downforce. Dodge, namely Sterling Marlin, came close to winning 2 or 3 times before they kicked out the nose. That was the extra push to help even the playing field. "Apparently NASCAR granted Dodge an aerodynamic change midseason.  This allowed Dodge an unfair advantage over Pontiac, Chevy and Ford." Yes, NASCAR did help the Dodge boys. But they didn't give them an unfair advantage over Pontiacs, Chevys, Fords. Even if it did, it was unintentional. They may have given them a little too much, but NASCAR took away an inch after Homestead. "Has anyone besides me noticed the sudden number of Dodge wins since NASCAR changed the specs on the Dodge Stock Car?  The amount of wins over whelms Chevy, Pontiac and Ford.  Not to mention the number of top 10 placements.  One has to wonder if there is something more to this story then just evening odds." There is nothing to this story except evening the odds. Look @ before the kickout. Dodge was no where near as good as the Chevys, Fords, and Pontiacs. They needed that kickout to even everything out. Dodge was the major underdog. And the number of wins doesn't over whelm the rest. They have had 4 since the change. Pontiacs have had 2. Chevys have had 4. And Fords have had 3. The ratio of wins per total drivers is the same for the Pontiacs, Dodges, and Chevys; 2:5. Fords have 3:16. They are the only ones that are disadvantaged. And they got help recently. So, Dodge's don't have an unfair advantage.
